Sports, Scholarships Conclude Rotary Year

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Rotarians in northern Oregon and southwest Washington are concluding the Rotary year with a series of sports event fundraisers and celebrations of scholarship winners.

The Hermiston Rotary Club jumps into the pickleball craze by hosting the Watermelon Slam Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, June 27. The tournament is open to all ranges of players, from beginners to experts, with proceeds benefitting ShelterBox, an international disaster relief organization affiliated with Rotary International.

The Rotary Club of Dallas will host its annual fundraising golf tournament on Friday, June 19 at Cross Creek Golf Course, while Newberg Early Birds Rotary’s golf tournament tees off on Monday, June 22, at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course.

The Rotary Club of Portland is among several Rotary clubs presenting high school seniors with college scholarships. The club hosts its annual Neil Kelly Scholarship Luncheon on Tuesday, June 9, at the Sentinel Hotel, celebrating its selected recipients for scholarships from North and Northeast Portland.

For those who want to support a good cause through a good meal, the Lake Oswego Rotary Club presents its 42nd annual Lobster Feed and Charity Auction on Saturday, June 20, at the Lakewood Center for the Arts. Over its history, the event has raised over $4 million for local causes and scholarships.

While events and scholarship presentations have a special focus in June, service projects by Rotarians do not stop. The Rotary Club of Oregon City is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Friday, June 12. Clackamas Sunrise Rotary will do a road clean-up project around Clackamas High School on Saturday, June 13.

26th Annual Neil Kelly Scholarship Luncheon

Each year, the Rotary Club of Portland honors four exceptional high school seniors from North and Northeast Portland as they begin their next chapter. Chosen based on their commitment to service, leadership, and academic studies, each student will receive up to $16,000 in renewable funding through the Neil Kelly Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Neil Kelly, a highly regarded businessman, Rotarian and community leader. Tickets are $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight people. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the program beginning at noon. Register for the luncheon online.

American Red Cross Blood Drive

The Rotary Club of Oregon City joins forces with the American Red Cross for a blood drive on Friday, June 12 at the Oregon City United Methodist Church. All Red Cross blood donors between June 1 and 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card to the merchant of their choice. Book a time donate blood online.

One of the club’s key fundraisers, this tournament is not only a fun way to meet other community leaders, but all proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Dallas’ local and international projects and campaigns.
