About District 5100

Leadership

It takes a team of dedicated leaders to support our district – from the District Governor to the Area Governors.

Youth Exchange

Rotary District 5100 Youth Exchange (YEX) currently exchanges students with 22 countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America for both Short Term Exchange (STEP) and the Year-Long Program (LTEP).

Our YEX program is always looking for outbound students to send on exchange and host families to support inbound students for three month periods.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Since 1985, District 5100 has led one of the premier RYLA programs in the country. Our district’s program differs from others due to us awarding these scholarships to 19-32 year olds, as opposed to high school aged youth. Our program also takes place over a whole week at the beautiful Menucha Retreat Center in Corbett, Oregon. It is a week of intensive leadership training that has jump started the Rotary careers of many participants

Rotaract

Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.

History

Our District’s history goes back to 1910 when the Rotary Club of Portland was chartered. Our district hosted the second National Convention of Rotary Club’s in Portland, Oregon in 1911 (pictured left) where Rotary’s first motto, “He Profits Most Who Serves Best” was approved.

Rotary International President Estes Snedecor (1920-21) was from the Rotary Club of Portland.

Portland hosted the 87th International Convention in 1990.
